The Gaià River is one of the natural emblems of our region, a river that crosses the Alt Camp from north to south along the eastern slope. Over the centuries, it has nourished our lands and the set of populations that gather around it, which have transmitted the love for the river from generation to generation.
The surroundings of the Gaià River offer a unique set of biodiversity and a lively touch of green that comes from the trees that form on its banks, a whole space of enjoyment for nature lovers. In addition, around it, there are a whole series of routes and itineraries to travel alone or with the family; whether on foot, by bicycle or on horseback!
The most observant, if you enter with the necessary caution, will be able to perceive the fauna that is hidden there: frogs, salamanders, genets, wild boars, corncrakes or woodpeckers.
The towns of the Alt Camp that rise around the Gaià are Querol, Pont d’Armentera, Aiguamúrcia (and Santes Creus), Vila-rodona and Montferri. The river has not only influenced the landscape of these municipalities, but has also been key to their economic and cultural development. In fact, if you choose to travel the entire river, in addition to a route full of nature, you will also find an itinerary of first-class cultural and historical heritage. Monuments as relevant as the Monastery of Santes Creus, the Sanctuary of the Mare de Déu de Montserrat in Montferri, the Roman columbarium of Vila-rodona or the castle of Querol have been built around the Gaià river.
Stroll and disconnect on the banks of the river, surrounded by the sound of the water flowing down, and marvel at our nature and our monuments!
