The Vila-rodona Cooperative exclusively produces grapes from its members’ vineyards, located mainly in the municipalities of Vila-rodona, Aiguamúrcia, Valls and La Secuita. They are all vineyards catalogued within designations of origin (DO Catalunya, DO Tarragona and DO Cava, which give prestige and guarantee the quality of the wines and cavas obtained.
The production of white wines predominates, from the Macabeu, Parellada and Chardonnay varieties, although in recent years there has been a significant increase in red varieties, such as Ull de Tlebre, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
The mild Mediterranean climate of the area allows for a very healthy ripening of the grapes and a very good colouring in the red grapes, which promotes the obtaining of structured, balanced and complex wines to the taste.
The Cooperativa Agrícola de Vila-rodona, a magnificent example of modernist architecture, is located in the middle of the Cistercian Route, and next to the Santes Creus monastery.
Its foundation dates back to 1919 and the Celler Cooperatiu building, with modernist influence and the work of the architect from Valencia, Cèsar Martinell, It is of notable architectural interest and can be visited. In 2006, the Vila-rodona Agricultural Cooperative, together with other associated cooperatives, decided to undertake a new project to produce, bottle and market their own wines and cavas under the same brand: Castell d’Or.
Our main effort has always been towards constant technical improvement and the optimal use of our own resources. Proof of this is the inauguration in 2008 of the new wine and cavas aging and bottling facilities, equipped with the most modern technologies. This work has resulted in an excellent quality of the wines and other local products produced by the Cooperative.
