Magrinyà Calaf cava is the legacy of a family of winegrowers with over two hundred years of experience. According to the oldest preserved document, dated 1810, the Vidales family has been dedicated to the cultivation of vines since the beginning of the 19th century. During all these years, the family reconciled the cultivation of vines with the rest of the traditional crops and it was not until the middle of the 20th century that the vine became the main element.
Cava was born with the enthusiasm of the winegrower Francesc Calaf Vidales to make his own sparkling wines. With the use of a small cellar in the manor house, with haste and without ornaments, he produced the first bottles of cava almost 30 years ago. The initial success and the good reception led to the creation of the Magrinyà Calaf family winery, thus becoming one of the oldest Cavas in the Alt Camp.
Thanks to the rigor and excellence exercised throughout all these years, the Cavas are now fully consolidated.
WINE TOURISM
Located in the municipality of Nulles, in the southern part of the Alt Camp, the Magrinyà Calaf Cavas enjoy a Mediterranean dryland landscape that is almost unique in all of Catalonia. A rural territory adorned with the legacy of nature that, escaping the usual disorder of the most industrial areas, has managed to age with elegance and wisdom. Visitors will see with great satisfaction how the stands of Macabeo, Chardonnay or Merlot, among other varietals, intertwine to sew this infinite amalgam of greenish tones, a chromatic scale only altered by the evolution of the year itself. With 80% of the territory dedicated to wine production, the cultivation of hazelnuts, almonds and olives complement and shape this natural and agricultural landscape.
