In our unique and fertile land, a product grows that concentrates in its flavor the entire essence of the Alt Camp: the calçot. We are talking about a true jewel of Catalan gastronomy, recognized for its quality and unmistakable flavor. This delicacy is the epicenter of the calçotada, a tradition that goes beyond a simple meal. The calçotada is culture, brotherhood and identity.
What is the authentic calçotada like? The debate is opened! However, despite the many opinions, there is a common denominator: the zero kilometer. The calçotada is made by the farmers of our territory who cultivate the calçots with the centuries-old techniques that are passed down from generation to generation; it is made by local businesses that treat the product with the delicacy of those who love it as much as they love the territory; it is also made by the artisans of the fire, who find the exact cooking point with a live flame; and the grandmother makes it with her calçot sauce, which once on your tongue makes you feel at home. Calçotada is Alt Camp!
To safeguard this seal of quality and tradition, the IGP (Protected Geographical Indication) Calçot de Valls was born, a brand that guarantees the authenticity of the product. In addition, once a year, Valls hosts the Great Calçotada Festival, which this 2025 will be held on Sunday, January 26. During the celebration, attendees can participate in outdoor calçotadas accompanied by a varied program of activities, such as live music, shows, competitions and activities for the whole family.
For this reason, we invite you, between the months of November and April, to experience it firsthand, because calçotada also belongs to all those who make and value it! Visit the region and look up to the sky three times, as tradition teaches: the first time to contemplate how the enxaneta crowns a human tower; the second, to admire the bell tower of Valls, the tallest in Catalonia; and the last, to eat calçots in the traditional style, with your arm raised and your mouth wide open!
